Airline Ticket Agent
Job Description
An Airline Ticket Agent serves as the primary financial and logistical counselor for passengers at the airport. While they handle the technical aspects of ticket issuance, in a hospitality-focused environment, they act as "Travel Advisors." They manage complex fare constructions, re-issuance of tickets during disruptions, and the collection of fees for premium services, all while ensuring the guest feels supported and informed rather than merely processed.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Transaction Management: Selling new tickets, processing upgrades, and handling payments for excess baggage or specialized services using global distribution systems.
  • Complex Re-ticketing: Navigating intricate fare rules to re-route or re-book passengers during flight cancellations or missed connections.
  • Documentation Expertise: Verifying that ticketed names match legal identification and ensuring all "Special Service Requests" (SSRs) are correctly attached to the electronic record.
  • Revenue Protection: Ensuring all taxes, security fees, and surcharges are accurately calculated and collected in accordance with international aviation laws.
  • Guest Advocacy: Acting as a liaison between the passenger and the airline’s revenue or baggage departments to resolve billing discrepancies or refund requests.

Salary Explanation
Salaries for Ticket Agents are typically higher than general ground staff due to the specialized financial training and software expertise required.
  • Average Salary: Full-time agents at major international airports typically earn between $40,000 and $55,000 annually.
  • Premium/VIP Ticketing: Specialists working in dedicated First Class or private aviation "Ticket Lounges" can earn $58,000 to $72,000.
