Park Ranger in Hospitality
Job Description
Park Ranger in Hospitality is a dedicated safety, security, and guest relations professional typically found at large-scale RV resorts, high-end campgrounds, and nature-focused retreats. Unlike government rangers who manage vast public wilderness, a resort ranger focuses on the immediate "micro-environment" of the property. They act as the property’s frontline ambassadors—monitoring grounds for safety risks, enforcing resort policies, and providing technical support for guests, such as assisting with RV site setups or troubleshooting facility issues.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Security & Safety Patrols: Conducting regular rounds of the property to identify safety hazards, secure buildings, and monitor for unauthorized visitors.
  • Guest Assistance: Greeting arriving guests, escorting them to their sites, and resolving practical issues like door lock problems or site hookup difficulties.
  • Policy Enforcement: Ensuring guests follow resort rules regarding noise, campfire safety, and facility use to maintain a peaceful environment for all.
  • Emergency Response: Acting as a first responder for on-site medical calls or alarms and coordinating with local emergency services when necessary.
  • Site & Amenity Maintenance: Checking vacant sites for cleanliness and performing routine upkeep on trails, pools, and recreational areas.

Salary Explanation
Salaries for Park Rangers in the hospitality sector often reflect the role's seasonal nature and the specific type of property, such as a corporate-owned RV resort or a luxury independent retreat.
  • Average Hourly Pay: In the United States, resort rangers typically earn between $15 and $24 per hour.
  • Annual Salary: Full-time roles generally range from $31,000 to $45,000, though senior rangers or those at high-tier resorts can earn upwards of $69,000.
  • Location Premiums: Positions in high-cost-of-living areas command higher rates, often exceeding $26 per hour.
  • Benefits: Many roles are seasonal but may include standard benefits for year-round staff, such as retirement plans and health insurance.

Suggested Interview Questions
  1. How do you balance being a "friendly host" with the need to strictly enforce resort safety rules?
  2. Describe a time you had to de-escalate a conflict between two neighboring guests in a campground setting.
  3. What is your process for prioritizing tasks when you have a lost child, a medical emergency, and a facility leak at the same time?
  4. How do you handle guests who are persistently ignoring fire safety codes or noise ordinances?
  5. What experience do you have with basic maintenance tasks, such as clearing trails or fixing minor RV site issues?
  6. Describe your approach to providing "interpretive information" about local wildlife to a family with young children.
  7. How do you ensure your own safety and situational awareness while patrolling remote areas of a large property at night?
  8. What specific steps would you take if a guest reported seeing a dangerous animal near their campsite?
  9. How do you stay updated on local weather patterns that might require a resort-wide safety warning or evacuation?
  10. Describe a time you went "above and beyond" to help a guest who was struggling with their equipment or arrival.
