Tassili n'Ajjer National Park, located in southeastern Algeria near the Libyan, Niger, and Malian borders, is a 72,000 (text{km}^{2}) UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its "forest of rock" sandstone formations and one of the world's most significant collections of prehistoric rock art, dating from 10,000 BC to the early centuries AD.
The park contains over 15,000 engravings and paintings, including the famous "Running Horned Woman," depicting, in four chronological phases, the evolution of human life, cattle-herding, and environmental changes from a savanna to a desert.
Despite its hyper-arid climate, the high altitude (up to 2,158 m) hosts the rare, endangered Tassili cypress (Cupressus dupreziana) and remnant Saharan fauna like gazelles and fennec foxes.
