Customs & Immigration Officer
Job Description
Customs & Immigration Officer serves as the primary guardian of a nation’s borders at an airport. This role is a dual-focus position: Immigration focuses on the eligibility of individuals to enter the country (checking passports, visas, and travel intent), while Customs focuses on the items those individuals are bringing with them (detecting contraband, undeclared goods, or bio-hazards). They combine investigative techniques with high-level guest interaction to maintain security while facilitating the smooth flow of legitimate travel.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Admissibility Screening: Reviewing travel documents, passports, and visas to determine a passenger's legal right to enter or remain in the country.
  • Contraband Detection: Inspecting baggage, cargo, and personal effects for prohibited items such as narcotics, weapons, or undeclared currency.
  • Interrogative Interviewing: Conducting strategic questioning to verify travel purpose, financial stability, and intent to return to their home country.
  • Enforcement Actions: Performing arrests, detentions, or seizures when violations of customs, trade, or immigration laws are identified.
  • Cross-Agency Collaboration: Working alongside local police, international intelligence agencies, and airport stakeholders to manage threats and surveillance operations.
