The Source of the Nile in Burundi is considered the southernmost, and often the most remote, source of the Nile River, located on Mount Gikizi in the Rutovu commune, Bururi Province. Identified in 1937 by German explorer Burkhart Waldecker, this site is marked by a pyramid monument that commemorates the headwaters of the Ruvyironza River.
